Audio-Technica Expands AT-SP3X Series with Elegant White Finish

Audio-Technica introduced its compact AT-SP3X powered speakers in July of last year, initially available exclusively in black. Less than a year later, the company has decided to broaden the lineup with the addition of a pristine white variant, the "AT-SP3X WH." The new model is scheduled for release in Japan on June 13th, carrying a retail price of approximately ¥29,700.

Optimized for Analog Excellence

These powered speakers feature "bespoke tuning specifically optimized for Audio-Technica cartridges and analog turntables," while simultaneously offering Bluetooth connectivity. Beyond wireless pairing with Bluetooth-enabled turntables, users can effortlessly stream music directly from smartphones and other mobile devices.

For wired connections, the speakers incorporate a dedicated analog RCA input, enabling direct connection to turntables equipped with built-in phono preamps. The Bluetooth implementation supports multi-point connectivity, allowing simultaneous pairing with two devices, utilizing SBC audio codec for wireless transmission.

Precision-Engineered Driver Configuration

The AT-SP3X WH employs a carefully matched driver array consisting of 3-inch (76mm) woofers and 1.1-inch (27mm) tweeters. This combination, unified with the enclosure's acoustic design, leverages integrated DSP processing for proprietary sound tuning, delivering exceptionally balanced, clear, and linear performance. The frequency response spans 55Hz to 20kHz, with a maximum output capability of 30W.

Acoustic Refinements

The speakers feature specially designed metal grilles over the tweeters that provide diffusion characteristics, effectively expanding the dispersion pattern of the inherently directional high frequencies. This acoustic approach ensures "balanced, high-quality sound reproduction throughout the entire listening space." Bass response is enhanced through rear-firing reflex ports that reinforce low-frequency performance.

Build Quality and Specifications

The enclosures are constructed from MDF for optimal acoustic properties, with power and volume controls conveniently positioned on the side panel. Despite their compact dimensions of 125 × 136 × 200mm (W × D × H), these speakers achieve an impressive 30W maximum output. The weight distribution is 1.5kg for the left channel and 1.6kg for the right channel.

Power is supplied via an included AC adapter supporting universal voltage (AC100-240V), complete with four interchangeable plug adapters for international compatibility.
