Audio-Technica AT-LP7X: Manual Turntable with MM/MC Phono Stage
Audio-Technica, the Japanese audio giant established in 1962 and renowned for its cartridges, microphones, and headphones, has announced the release of its latest analog offering: the AT-LP7X.
Set to launch in the Japanese domestic market on February 6th, this manual belt-drive turntable is priced at approximately ¥132,000 (incl. tax) on the official store. While the model has already seen availability in select overseas markets, this marks its official homecoming debut.

The AT-LP7X serves as the direct successor to the widely acclaimed AT-LP7, originally released in 2018. It inherits the design philosophy of its predecessor while introducing key upgrades aimed at refining audio performance.
Chassis and Platter Upgrades The foundation of the AT-LP7X is a robust 40mm-thick MDF chassis, designed to dampen resonance. A key update from the previous model is the platter material. Audio-Technica has replaced the Polyoxymethylene (POM) platter of the LP7 with a 20mm-thick acrylic platter. This density allows for playback without a slipmat, offering improved resonance control and clearer audio reproduction.
The motor utilizes a floating mount structure with dedicated rubber damping elements, effectively isolating the motor from the chassis to minimize vibration transfer.

Classic J-Shaped Tonearm Sticking to its heritage, the deck features A-T's classic J-shaped tonearm, a design inspired by the company’s vintage models from the 60s and 70s. For the serious enthusiast, it retains the critical VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) adjustment mechanism. The arm also includes a refined dynamic anti-skate control to ensure precise tracking and a stable stereo image.
Cartridge and Flexibility The turntable ships with the AT-VM95E BK (Black) Dual Moving Magnet cartridge, pre-mounted on the new AT-LT10 headshell. The headshell is lightweight and designed for easy handling.

Versatility is a strong point here. The unit comes standard with a sub-counterweight, allowing it to accommodate a cartridge/headshell combined weight of 14.0g to 23.5g. With sold-separately counterweights, the arm can handle heavier setups up to 28.5g, giving audiophiles plenty of room to experiment with different cartridges.
Precision Speed and Power The AT-LP7X supports both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM speeds, regulated by a precise optical sensor system that monitors and maintains rotation consistency. To further reduce the noise floor, the AC adapter is external, keeping potential electrical interference away from the signal path and improving the overall signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.

Built-in Phono Stage The deck includes a built-in switchable phono preamp (Phono Equalizer) that supports both MM (Moving Magnet) and MC (Moving Coil) cartridges, making it compatible with a wide range of amplifiers and active speakers right out of the box.

The unit rests on height-adjustable, spring-loaded isolation feet, allowing for perfect leveling and additional protection against room vibrations.
